Astragalus for Cancer and Immune Function

Astragalus for Cancer and Immune Function

Astragalus root is a great immune system protector

Native to China, Mongolia, and Korea, astragalus is a herb that is known botanically as astragalus membranaceus. It has been used for millennia by practitioners of Chinese medicine. Known as haung qi or chi, because it boosts natural body energy levels. In fact, the Chinese view it as one of the most important of the tonic herbs.

This herb is said to protect against the effects of stress and treat various health conditions. Furthermore, recent scientific research suggests another benefit: Taken in supplement form, this herb may be a useful therapy for people with cancer.

At the University of Texas studies have shown astragalus to be an adaptogenic herb, offering up viruses, bacteria and even cancer cells to be seen by the immune system. It has been found in peer reviewed studies to double survival rates of cancer patients undergoing radiation therapy.

Chinese studies conclude that the herb has been used to treat cancer for thousands of years successfully. Whereas, western medical scientists insist it is only used alongside conventional treatments of chemo and radiation therapy. Although, how these two treatments can be classed as a therapies makes one wonder.

“Researchers at The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center found that astragalus extract boosted the cell-destroying ability, or cytotoxicity, of the conventional immune system drug interleukin-2 (IL-2) by helping cells of the immune system.”

The roots of the plant are said to stimulate the production of interferon. Interferon is an essential chemical that induces the proper functioning of the immune system. On the other hand, interferon is also effective in fighting cell mutation and cancer development.

Astragalus can also be taken for:

  • Heart health
  • Wounds
  • Anti-aging
  • Anemia

In the video, Dr. Meschino explains how astragalus improves the function of immune cells so they can find cancer cells & kill them before they form a tumor. Visit:     to read Dr. Meschino’s full article on this topic.
