April-May Tarotscope 2016 by Alex

Here is your April-May tarotscope

Hello everybody. The inspiration struggled to flow this month, upon laying out the twelve cards for the April/May tarotscope. Somehow, I was blocked. So when I awoke today (17th April) to beautiful sunshine, I decided that animal augury would add a dimension to the reading (or at least kick start the process). For me, this kind of writing requires partnership between the keen qualities of the focused human mind and the cosmic impetus, without which, it is all simply ‘thinking’. Inspiration is the heartbeat of good divinatory writing. Mars has gone retrograde today in Sagittarius and this seems relevant, in terms of an evaluation of transcendental impetus. Where does the inspiration come from and how can we tap into it best? The shift of Mars in the sky represents a seed being planted for the future, a calling into a new mode of living on the planet.

The prophetic art is age-old; the practice of augury is well substantiated in the Bible. Cicero’s De divinatione (Concerning Divination), dated probably 44 bc, provides the best source on ancient divinatory practices. Both he and Plato distinguish between augury that can be taught and augury that is divinely inspired in ecstatic trance. Encyclopædia Britannica

Aries April/May tarotscopeARIES: This month appears to be a study in just how, in the past, your ideas have been the stumbling block behind your most persistent emotional dramas within your relationships. What have your most basic philosophies (assumptions) been, about how relationships should proceed? This line of questioning will prove fruitful beyond the next month, as you catch a glimpse of how your most intimate ‘contracts’ have been based in fairly one dimensional approaches to relating. Begin to consider how driving forward is not always the best strategy. In relating, making space for allowing – as well as shaping your energy to attract, rather than forcing reality to bend to your will – is something you would do well to experiment with. Allow others to come to you and let this be an expression of a greater wholeness now evident within you. The goal is balanced relating and you can make great strides with that right now.

Taurus April-May tarotscopeTAURUS: We can speak about karma in numerous ways. This month, it would be very useful to look at it as that one thing above all that may be holding you back. It may LOOK one way to you and yet the issue likely goes deeper than you can yet see. Certainly, there’s a sense of you digging deep until June. Usually, we encounter our internal blocks when we attempt to make decisive decisions, but feel unable to be committal enough to act. A key question therefore is “on what basis do I make my decisions?” I’m not sure this is about facts or quality information, as you might assume. I think it is more about an enduring confusion about really knowing what you want. It appears that you may just have commenced a process of working this out… one step at a time. There is something about risk taking, comfort and boldness in the mix. For now, FEEL (not think) each step – knowing you can reverse if necessary.

Gemini April-May tarotscopeGEMINI: Mars shines a light on something this month. In our innocent phase of life we rely upon our mother’s nurture to bring us what we need. When we observe the animal kingdom we know that if the infant cries out for her, for food or protection, it will be forthcoming. We humans have a rather more unpredictable experience in this arena. How do you get your nurture needs met, Gemini? Have you longed for an experience, akin to that of the innocence of childhood? Have you, at times, sought said nurture from your close partners, based on an idealised/pristine vision of being provided for by a loved one? This would appear to be what is up for review for you over the next six weeks or so. Your sense of wellbeing may well have had a strong survival imperative to it when you were in that vulnerable phase we call ‘childhood’. It appears that you are called upon to explore this just now. Self-love trumps self-preservation!

Cancer April-May tarotscopeCANCER: Guilt can be like a religion to you. It can have you going round and round endlessly, with no seeming prospect of breaking the vicious circle of guilt/appeasement. Well, we get programmed into guilt and the good news is we CAN escape it. However, this can only happen when we stop believing that our service to others is some kind of virtue, without which the ravens will depart the Tower of London and the kingdom collapse! Pleasure would appear to be the antithesis and the antidote to guilt. Of course, the prospect of wanton pleasure will be met by the guilt reflex. “How could you be so selfish?”… it seems to say. Well, start small. Ditch any and all expectations and shoulds that may have haunted all your significant adult relating from the year dot. Choose to be in process and notice how, every step of the way, you can make a choice between pleasure for its own sake and obligation. Which feels best?

Leo April-May tarotscopeLEO: Try not to allow your creative impulses to be dominated by fears around the financial viability of anything you do. Instead of being driven from a space of tension, or conflict, between material needs and aesthetic requirements, remember that when the energy flows smoothly from inspiration to manifestation, there will be adaptations and corrections and imperfections, but most definitely a tangible product. I suggest you don’t skip this important observation. Your artefacts are valuable, as are your ideas. So do not jump straight from concepts to fiscal thinking, unless you want to pressure/scare yourself. Transformations through a process are crucial to all evolution. You must travel light, in order to fly. There is no room for fear. Be flexible and resilient. Keep things to scale for now and develop your ideas in microcosm. Manifest each one patiently. If the quality is good the rest follows. Your creativity IS your security!

Virgo April-May tarotscopeVIRGO: When we consider all the social achievements, everything built, which we work for and that provide us with stability, HOW do these things compare in value to the as yet unknown territory of the new, the potential, of possibilities untold – with all the uncertainties and intangibility implied within that seed? Where does your life force find it most easy to reside – in the fixed world of artefacts, or the flexible world of imagination? I suspect that there may be a restlessness in you that would see you burst out of the prison of traditional security and begin to anchor yourself more in the creative imagination and fresh green shoots of exploration. In order to free the caged bird, it may be necessary to examine your values around security and their roots in your formative experiences, watching mum and dad. I recommend action too. The kind that sees you ditching the car and exploring the neighbourhood.

Libra April-May tarotscopeLIBRA: It looks as though self worth is in the spotlight again. Let me ask you a straightforward question: How comfortable are you with other people coming into your private space? I know that home is our sanctuary, but it is likewise an embodiment of how our feelings are and often this reflects how we feel about ourselves. Yes, a home is to be functional. It contains us, and yet it also reveals us. How do you feel about that scrutiny? I have a challenge for you. Would you consider inviting a neighbour into your space, to begin breaking down certain barriers you may have erected resolutely over time? I get the feeling that you’d benefit from establishing a better balance of interactions within your locality and maybe a little more emotional openness to boot – but maybe to do that you must reconceive yourself a little – no longer the servant, but the person who can expect something back, every once in a while!

Scorpio April-May tarotscopeSCORPIO: Have you, I wonder, reached the limits of your growth potential? Before you get into the ‘philosophy’ of that, it may help you to look closely at whether or not the things that you value the most actually support your growth as a person, or instead reflect a particular relationship that you have to your sense of material security. What drives what you do? My sense is that there is some feeling of material constraint (maybe ancient fears of ‘losing it all’) that seems to have been defining for you. When it comes to your growth potential I can’t help wondering if there is an approaching fork in the road which is going to press on these sore points. One road seems to be that of self-actualisation, free of any sense of expectation, the other seems to be the road you’ve laid historically, which may have rendered you ‘blind’ to other options. To quote The Veils “We’re all just following the light of long dead stars”.

Sagittarius April-May tarotscopeSAGITTARIUS: It looks to me that you are in a time, during the next couple of months or so, of trying to work out how safe you actually are on the planet. There are many ways by which we can take our eye off the ball and begin to assume that the structures which contain us are as fit for purpose as they always seemed to be. However, there can be these uncomfortable moments where an unexpected development catches us out and seems to expose the assumptions made. Are your relationships parasitic (in either direction) I wonder, or are they instead symbiotic? This question will prove to be pivotal in the coming weeks as you explore the basic pattern of your every day life. I certainly get the impression that you may be deeply concerned that there is an imbalance that needs addressing. Well, let me ask, do your current power dynamics of relating remind you of any old ones? And, can you do anything about that?

Capricorn April-May tarotscopeCAPRICORN: We are stronger together, no doubt. But perhaps you have reason to be suspicious of what exactly that ‘together’ bit would mean in practice. When we are attempting to fan a spark into a flame, at the beginning of any significant venture, it can feel both nigh impossible and very isolating. So here is the rub, in terms of connecting with other people to further your interests: Does the risk implicit in opening up to others (in terms of loss, or even treachery) outweigh the advantages to be gleaned from connecting and finding that enhanced strength in solidarity? Could you be pushing others away without realising it? (Just a thought!) Many of these interpersonal questions come back to personal ones, namely – how small do you feel (or large)? How vulnerable to external circumstances or chance, do you feel? At the end of the day, self-esteem has a monetary value. It IS as concrete as that. Stop pretending otherwise…

Aquarius April-May tarotscopeAQUARIUS: As Pluto continues to transform the social and economic structures as we know them and change the human race’s relationship to prosperity, here you are, having to reconceive how your ideals about society must shift in practice and how you must change your ideas about career/vocation, in line with both the broader societal changes and your own specific circumstances. In the past, your ideals always seem to have preceded your sense of graft and getting things done, whereas these days, it would appear that practical concerns are becoming more pressing than abstract concepts. This we call ‘growth’. Your intellectual gymnastics have served you well, but now you are beginning to see just how far the every day realities shape so much of humanity’s values – and at last, you can access compassion for this. These are the final stages of preparation for your leadership life path. Get ready to step up… soon.

Pisces April-May tarotscopePISCES: After a period of disruption it appears as if you are finally entering into some calmer waters. This will give you some space in which you will be able to re-evaluate why you do what you do. I would like to caution you that you must work to ensure that these calmer waters continue to be your experience. The choice for you, would appear to be one where you continue to ignore a set of circumstances or feelings or dwell on a matter without taking appropriate action, OR to desist with mental activity and allow yourself the experience of feeling your reality from a different space of embodied connection to your life – which is largely about trusting the messages your body gives you, rather than the one which the mind continues to fabricate in its place. It is quite possible that you could be having psychosomatic symptoms at this time. The answer is to go out of your mind and come to your senses – the healing path.

Connecting the dots among themes of servitude, self-worth, guilt and relationship AND money — brilliant insight and precisely relevant and healing for me (Cap Sun, Cancer Moon, Libra Rising). Thank you very much. Will be re-reading these over the month. Deeply nourishing. Love that Eagle watched over you to deliver these incisive perspectives!
